Phillips Home Remodel ~ Project #4

Project #4 - Mission Demolition!

We started demo almost immediately after we moved the washer and dryer.  There was a lot to demolish so we knew in order to stay on schedule, we needed to do a little here and a little there.  This is where things really started to get messy!

We started with demoing the fireplace since it really didn't affect our living at the time.  No need for a fire when it is in the 80s!  Holy Dust!  It is a good thing the kids and I were going to be out of town for the rest of the major demo.

Zach and I were able to take a little weekend away to celebrate our 5th anniversary...so the kids went to Grandma's...which was a great time to do the rest of the demo.  When we got back from the Lake, we finished the fireplace.
Demo definitely took some time since Zach pretty much did it all on his own...he is kinda awesome like that!  We decided it would be best for me and the kiddos to be absent for most of the demo since there would be so much dust and debris everywhere.  After I picked Zoe and Evan up from Grandma, we headed to Huntsville to visit my sister and her family and see their new home!  While we were gone....our home got torn up!

After the fireplace, Zach moved in to the kitchen and removed the cabinets.  We are reusing the base cabinets and wall cabinets from one of the walls in the kitchen for added storage in the garage!  Once the one wall was empty, the wall could come down!

The wall dividing the living room from the kitchen was a concern for us.  We weren't sure if it was load bearing or not.  Thanks to some research and youtube, we came to the conclusion that it was not load bearing and confirmed this when Zach went into the attic and the trusses in the attic didn't even touch the wall!  So...it got demolished, along with everything else!

After the main wall was knocked out and the ceiling didn't cave in, we felt it was safe to move on to more demo.  The walls for the kitchen pantry were next.

With the pantry walls gone, our demo was pretty much complete!  We held on to the sink cabinet and dishwasher as long as possible...because a preggo doing dishes in the tub just isn't good!

Phew....at this point we were ahead of schedule and rocking the home remodel!  It still amazes me how the projects went so smoothly!
